Treatments

We are a small and well respected healthcare team and are able to offer treatments for a variety of conditions. We make recommendations for the best approach based on our experience and the nature of the issue you come in with. The choice of treatments is very much a partnership between you and your practitioner. Our aim is to reduce your discomfort and help your body back to optimal function. Alongside treatment, this is likely to include advice on lifestyle, posture and exercises.

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a primary health care profession focused on your health and wellbeing.

The World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) states: “Chiropractic is a health profession concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health".

Chiropractors focus on the spine and the neuro-musculoskeletal system and how conditions affecting these areas can affect your health and performance. Chiropractors are trained to assess the neuro-musculoskeletal system and identify restrictions, imbalances and dysfunction.

Chiropractors do not use medicines or surgery and the gentle manual approaches we use at Active are safe and comfortable to receive.

Chiropractors’ patients include the young, older people, manual workers, office professionals, pregnant women, children and sports people. A misalignment of the joints can occur for many reasons; we find that some of the most common causes are incorrect lifting, car or sporting accidents, falls, stress, and poor posture. This can lead to pain, numbness, pins and needles, or restricted mobility.

Our package of chiropractic care involves spinal and peripheral joint adjustments and mobilisations, application of soft tissue treatment and advice on exercise, self-help, diet and lifestyle where appropriate.

Western Medical Acupuncture

Grant and Penny provide a professional and modern acupuncture service that specialises in the treatment of pain.

Western medical acupuncture is a therapeutic treatment involving the insertion of fine needles into the skin and underlying tissues in key ‘points’ for therapeutic or preventative purposes. It is an adaptation of Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology, and the principles of evidence based medicine.

Our package of acupuncture care varies from regular visits to assist with migraines and headaches to just one or two treatments alongside chiropractic care for knee or muscle pain.

Kinesio-taping (KT)

KT has been clinically shown to assist with the natural response to inflammation. It provides support to injured muscles and joints whilst allowing a safe and pain free range of movement, encouraging the patient to continue moving or training whilst they recover. KT is sometimes used as part of your treatment.

Orthotic Insoles

Shaped insoles which support the foot. These are designed to treat mechanical foot problems that can lead to foot, leg and knee pain in adults and children. Orthotics are sometimes recommended as part of your treatment plan.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a life changing, joyous, emotional and exciting journey for most women. However, approximately two-thirds of pregnant women experience low back pain and almost one fifth experience pelvic pain (PGP). These pains generally increase with advancing pregnancy and can interfere with work, daily activities and sleep.
